Luque, August 24th |
After a long tour, and after a visit to Villa del Rosario, the Duke
of Cornwall Singers arrived at Luque on Saturday, August 24th. At
mid-morning, at the central square, host families and a large part of
the local community met for a warm welcome. Again, and for a last time,
it was time for distribution among the host families, time to know
new people, and to adjust to new homes.
At lunch time, all met again at the local daycare center. A traditional asado with the local municipal authorities was the right moment for official welcoming words and exchange of presents. After a good siesta and rest, the time had come for the last official show of the Dukes in Argentina. The hall, filled at capacity as always, was ready for the presentation. First the local choir, then national folcloric dancing. Then tango and finally the appearance of the Dukes for their last performance. The success was assured, but the peak of the emotions came at the end of the show. Before singing the last song, Dalene addressed the audience, with a farewell note and thanking all, specially the twenty-odd kids that accompanied her and followed her guidance during the tour, and her daughter Liesje. And then came the moment to interpret the last song, 'Te Quiero'. The emotions, happiness and sadness were very visible in the tears on the faces of the twenty-two members of the Argentinian Tour 2002 of the Dukes of Cornwall Singers. After the last how and private celebrations, the partying continued with a dinner uniting the Dukes with the other artists of the night. This was the moment for complete relaxing and enjoyment. Sunday allowed resting till noon. After lunch, on one of the local squares, several local cultural groups presented shows, permitting the Dukes to rest, and contact large part of the local population. They played soccer, and read the letters they had collected during the tour. They drank mate, enjoyed the splendid afternoon. At night, in Luque's pub, dancing and fun were the perfect closure of the Tour. The official visit to eight places spanning the province of Córdoba had ended. The Duke of Cornwall Singers had won the hearts of all; and surely the feelings were mutual. Next stop: the airport |
